ABB Service in Aberdeen wins 5 year contract for Nexxan Buzzard

ABB based in Aberdeen has just signed a five year support contract to support their 800XA system on Nexen’s Buzzard platform.
ABB Limited’s oil and gas service operation in Aberdeen, part of the leading power and automation technology group, have been awarded a five year contract in two phases. Phase one will cover the first year and based on an ABB engineer being resident on the platform. Phase two consists of a traditional call off contract with agreed times to the heliport, agreed preventative maintenance visits and the management of spare parts.

Training will also be carried out by ABB to assist the development of Nexen’s operations personnel and technicians.

In addition to the traditional ABB support the contract also includes supporting third party Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and skid mounted packages. Owing to the complexity of the scope of this contract ABB have developed a unique process to facilitate effective technical support across many product interfaces. This is key to achieving the performance requirements set out in the framework of the contract.

ABB’s Oil and Gas Service Manager Bernie Woffinden comments “I am delighted with winning this contract as it further endorses our decision to build a technical support centre in Aberdeen to service the Oil &Gas sector.”

ABB’s 800XA system was recently installed on Nexen’s Buzzard platform. This award winning system extends the scope of traditional control systems to include all automation functions in a single operation and engineering environment; enabling plants to perform smarter and better at substantial cost savings.
